Pumpkin Spice Safety!
9/30/2020 (Permalink)
Fall is the best time to have candles filling our homes with yummy scents of apples, pumpkin spice and sandalwood. October through December are also the months that have the highest incidents of fires due to candles according to the National Fire Protection Association. Three of every five (37%) candle fires started when something that could burn, such as furniture, mattresses or bedding, curtains, or decorations, was too close to the candle. The bedroom is the most common point of origin for candle fires. Keep in mind the following safety tips for safe candle usage
- Candles should be placed in a sturdy candle holder
- Keep candles at least one foot away from anything that can burn
- Candles should be out of the reach of children and pets
- Blow out candles when you leave the room or go to bed
- Never use candles if oxygen is used in the home
- Light candles carefully. Keep your hair and any loose clothing away from the flame
