Winter 2019-2020 is already in full swing here in Norwich and Windham County with several snow storms already under our belt that have caused people to experience power outages. Here are some friendly reminders to get you through the winter storms
Things to do before a power outage
- Stock a central location with flashlights, batteries and candles
- Make sure you have non-perishable food that is easily accessible
- Have carbon monoxide detectors installed in your home with a battery back up
What to do in case of a power outage
- If there is extreme cold or heat, make sure to find a safe place where it is a reasonable temperature
- Know what temperatures your medications need to stay within
- Keep fridge and freezer doors closed so food stays cold longer
- Unplug electronics so when the power comes back, they do not short out
Things to do after a power outage
- Find the temperature of perishable foods to ensure that they are safe to eat
- Throw away food items that have perished
- If your medication is perished, contact your doctor about what to do next
- Replenish stocks of batteries, flashlights and candles
