SERVPRO of Norwich and Windham County wishes everyone a happy and safe holiday season.  Whether your celebrating Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Mawlid al-nabi or any important day this season please keep these tips in mind for a safe holiday season

Holiday Entertaining

• Test smoke alarms and tell guests about your home fire escape plan
• Keep children and pets away from lit candles
• Stay in the kitchen when cooking on the stove top
• Ask smokers to smoke outside

Holiday Decorating

• Be careful with holiday decorations.  Choose decorations that are flame resistant or flame retardant
• Keep lit candles away from decorations and other things that can burn
• Keep decorations away from windows and doors
• Use clips, not nails, to hang lights so the cords do not get damaged
• Replace any strings of lights with worn or broken cords or loose bulb connections.  Read manufacturer's instructions for the maximum number of light strands that can be connected.  
• Turn off all light strings and decorations before leaving home or going to bed
• 2 of every 5 decoration fires happen because decorations are place too close to a heat source
